If you’ve been to Downtown Disney in Orlando, Florida you’ve no doubt seen Brickley swimming in the lagoon in front of the LEGO store. Brickley (a sea monster, not a dragon, apparently) is made out of 170,000 LEGO bricks and is 30 feet long1. Luckily, you can bring home a much smaller version of Brickley in the form of LEGO set #40019: Brickley The Sea Serpent.

The set is rated at 6+ and it was perfect for my five year old daughter that is just starting to develop the hand strength and coordination needed to manipulate the smaller LEGO blocks. She was able to follow the directions herself (a big deal) and create her very own Brickley in around 30 minutes.

This set allows you to build a a very basic translation of the mascot serpent. There’s a more involved LEGO set for Brickley as well (LEGO model #3300001). These were released in 2011 and are apparently extremely rare (we didn’t see any on our recent trip to the Orlando store). It has a rumored availability of only 6000 sets.

The basic Brickley model is highly recommended for a young, new LEGO enthusiast. Some of the pieces for this set are very unusual and may make a nice addition to an older collector’s toolbox as well.
